How glad I am that glad that God led me to Ben Hill UMC Christian Academy. One could say the stars aligned perfectly at Ben Hill to give us the best-case outcome for our children. The stars in this case are the teachers, the staff, and the parents, as they have all moved in tandem and worked together to make this an exceptional one-of-a-kind community. Yes, there have been kinks and hiccups, but each and every person has done their part to make sure we kept moving and that the children continued to be nurtured.
From the Early Learners teacher who, at recess, would constantly hold the hand of my precariously-walking one-year-old, to the directors and staff who reach out to us after hours to make sure our concerns are addressed, "above and beyond" is no longer the exception. At Ben Hill, it is the norm. The open-door policy of leadership makes every parent and student feel like they are connected and in the know while also being heard. And speaking of parents, I would be remiss to not say that every parent is like an ex-officio staff member in that each parent's watchful eye is on not only on the well-being of their own child, but also that of the entire Ben Hill community.
My Kindergartener is excited to go to school every day. The journey from the front door to his classroom is a long one, but I smile at the "why." I am overjoyed that he feels moved to stop and make sure he greets every staff member, his teachers from previous years as well academy leadership. He knows he is amongst family, and that's what you do with family.
The Ben Hill "special sauce" will be hard to duplicate once the kids graduate and must make their debut to the rest of the world. However, I know they will make a grand entrance. As is proven by our alumni, our kids leave prepared but eager to learn, and confident but still humble. They graduate knowing they are privileged to have had such a great start, but ready to share their talents and make their contribution to the world.
Hats off to the Ben Hill founders and visionaries - you have created something great. You have endowed us with a Christian institution that brings with it an enduring legacy of excellence. I am proud to say that "we are family."
